Flights to Naples

The island is easily accessible from Naples Airport (Napoli Capodichino Airport — NAP), which is well-connected to international airports. Here's how you can get to Ischia from different parts of the world —

From Australia and Hong Kong

You’ll likely have a stopover in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or another European city before landing in Naples.

From the USA

Direct flights from major U.S. cities to Naples are available, including New York and Philadelphia, though most will stop in a European city (London, Paris, or Frankfurt).

From the UK

Direct flights to Naples are readily available from London and other major UK cities.

From the UAE

Direct flights are available from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Naples.

Naples Airport to the Ferry

When you arrive at Naples Airport, you have 2 options to get to the ferry terminal: (1) shuttle bus (easy if you packed light) or (2) taxi (better for groups and those with lots of luggage).

Option 1. Alibus Shuttle

  • €5 per person.
  • Takes about 20 - 30 minutes.
  • The Alibus is a dedicated shuttle service that runs between Naples Airport, Napoli Centrale (the main train station), and Molo Beverello (the main port for ferries to islands like Capri, Ischia, and Procida). Tickets can be purchased on the bus with cash or at the airport. The bus runs every 20 - 30 minutes.
  • You can board the bus from the bus stop which is a short walk from the airport main exit (see map below).

Option 2. Taxi

  • €20 - €25 one-way.
  • Takes about 15 - 20 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • Taxis are available outside the arrivals area of the airport. Be sure to ask the driver to use the meter or agree on a fare before starting your journey. It's advisable to use official taxis (white with a "TAXI" sign).

Ferry to Ischia
  • €20 - €30 per person (one-way).
  • Take about an hour.
  • Tickets can be purchased at ticket offices located at Molo Beverello or Calata Porta di Massa.
  • Don't be afraid to ask an employee for help at the terminal, as there are multiple ticket booths, and you don't want to end up on the wrong ferry!

Getting around Ischia

Getting around Ischia is simple once you are familiar with the options.

If you're comfortable riding a scooter or motorbike, this is often the most efficient and easiest way to explore. If that's not you, car rentals are widely available and offer flexibility. Just make sure you get a small car, as the roads can get very narrow!

While Uber isn’t available in Ischia, taxis are easy to arrange and provide a convenient way to get around. However, keep in mind that although places may look close on a map, the island’s winding roads can make travel a little longer than expected.

Option 1. Public Bus

  • Takes around €1.50 - €2 per ride, or you can buy a day pass for €4 - €7.
  • Public buses are a convenient and cheap way to explore Ischia. The main bus lines (CS and CD) circle the island in opposite directions, stopping at all major towns and attractions.
  • Buses run frequently but can be crowded, especially during peak tourist season (which should not be a problem in September!).
  • You can purchase tickets at tobacco shops (Tabacchi), newsstands, or directly on the bus (at a slightly higher price). It's best to keep small cash denominations with you when you are getting around.

Option 2. Taxi

  • Varies by distance and time of day, but short trips within towns usually range from €10 - €20. Longer trips around the island could be more expensive.
  • Taxis are readily available in main towns and at the port. Ensure the taxi meter is used, or agree on a fare beforehand. Taxis can also be hired for half-day or full-day tours of the island.
  • It's a good idea to have cash on hand, as not all taxis accept credit cards. This especially applies to American Express credit cards.

Option 3. Car or Scooter Rental

  • Car rentals typically range from €30 - €60 per day, while scooters are around €20 - €40 per day.
  • Renting a car or scooter gives you the freedom to explore Ischia at your own pace. Scooters are particularly popular because they are easier to navigate on the island’s narrow and winding roads. Cars offer more comfort and are ideal if you're traveling with family or have luggage. We suggest you rent ONLY IF you are a confident driver/rider.
  • Rental agencies are available at the port and in major towns like Ischia Porto, Forio, and Casamicciola.
  • Note: Driving in Ischia can be challenging due to the narrow roads, sharp turns, and local driving habits, so confidence in driving or riding a scooter is advisable.
